National Dental Assisting Examining Board © 2001 – 2024 National Dental Assisting Examining Board 42 Appendix D: Rules of Conduct During the Clinical Practice Evaluation (CPE) All candidates must comply with the site protocols and the rules of conduct during evaluation. Candidates who do not comply or whose conduct is considered disruptive or inappropriate will be requested to leave the clinic. Further, the individual will not be permitted to re-enter the clinic to complete the evaluation. In this circumstance the candidate’s evaluation will receive a failing grade and no refund will be issued. Rules of Conduct 1. On evaluation day, you will require government issued photo ID such as driver’s license, passport or health card, your Admission Letter – hard copy or on an electronic device. Candidates who do not produce ID will not be evaluated. 2. Candidates MUST bring a clinical uniform with no personal, college or dental clinic identifiers. Clinic shoes (closed toe and heel), and hosiery/socks must be worn. Mandatory safety glasses (clear glass only) or prescription glasses MUST be worn at all times while in the clinic. Candidates who do not bring these items will not be permitted into the clinic. Jewelry must be kept to a minimum. Hair must be kept back off the face for safety reasons. No chewing gum in the clinic. 3. Do not bring valuables. NDAEB is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. 4. Candidates arriving after the orientation session begins will not be given extra time to become familiar with the clinic, equipment and supplies. Candidates arriving after the session begins may not be evaluated. The Session Facilitator will determine if a candidate arriving late will be evaluated, based on factors at the site on that day. Candidates arriving on the wrong day will not be admitted to the session. 5. Visitors are not permitted under any circumstances. Childcare is not available, and arrangements must be made by the candidate for childcare away from the evaluation center. 6. On average, candidates attending the full CPE (9 skills) should expect to be at the facility for approximately 6 hours, including the one-hour orientation. A break will be provided. You are advised to bring a light snack, bottled water or other drinks. Water/drinks and food cannot be consumed in the clinic. 7. You may NOT use aids such as textbooks, papers with notes or photos, or other items in the clinic. Personal instruments and supplies are not permitted except for latex free gloves and/or masks. 8. The use of electronics such as: cell phones, cameras, Blackberries, MP3 players, Discmans, laptops and any other electronic device is strictly prohibited in the clinic, except to show your Admission Letter to your Evaluator. All electronics must be turned off and remain off in the clinic. Devices must be stored out of view along with your photo identification and any other belongings such as, but not limited to, purses/wallets in your unit. You may access your electronic devices and belonging from your unit during the break time.Candidates found using any electronic device in the clinic, will be escorted from the clinic, and awarded a failure on their evaluation. 9. Once you have completed the evaluation ensure that the clinic coordinator records your time out on the sign-in sheet. Once you have left the clinic you will not be re-admitted under any circumstances. 10. If you have any problems on the day of the evaluation, please call the emergency number on your Admission Letter
