© 1998 – 2025 National Dental Assisting Examining Board 19 Rules of Conduct During the Exam Each candidate must comply with the rules of conduct during the examination. Candidates who do not or whose conduct is considered suspicious, disruptive or inappropriate will be required to stop the exam and leave the examination room. Further, the individual will not be permitted to re-enter the examination room to complete the exam. In this circumstance, the candidate’s examination will receive a failing grade, and no refund will be issued, or no appeal will be considered. Any incidents at the testing centers, suspicious or irregular behavior will be reported directly to the NDAEB, with or without prior warning to the candidate. The following rules of conduct apply to examinations held at testing centers and remote proctored exams: 1. You are permitted a maximum of 4 hours to complete the examination unless you have been granted preapproved testing accommodations (extra time) by the NDAEB. Note: exam administrators will be advised by the NDAEB of any testing accommodation granted. 2. MINIMIZE BELONGINGS: candidates are advised to minimize the personal belongings they bring to the exam. Handbags, backpacks and outerwear will be stored in an area designated by the exam administrator and cannot be accessed during the exam, including during washroom breaks. Candidates are not permitted to enter the examination room with sweaters/sweatshirts that contain pockets or pouches. Access to personal belongings may be denied until the candidate has completed the exam and signed out of the testing room. Access to electronic devices will be denied (see below). The NDAEB and / or the institutions where the exams are administered accept no responsibility for lost or stolen belongings. Exam candidates are advised not to bring valuables to the exam site. Candidates do so at their own risk. 3. LATE ARRIVALS: candidates arriving more than 30 minutes after the exam begins will not be admitted. Candidates admitted to the exam room after the exam has commenced and not later than thirty minutes after the start time will not be given extra time to complete the exam. 4. WATER IS PERMITTED: clear plastic or other see-through type bottles containing water only, ARE permitted during the exam but are to be stored at a designated location set by the test administrator. For remote proctored exams, candidates are not permitted to have water bottles in their testing room. 5. FOOD / SNACKS ARE NOT PERMITTED: food and/or snacks are NOT permitted in the exam room except if approved by the NDAEB to accommodate special medical circumstances/conditions. To request medical accommodation a signed Medical Accommodation Request Form (available at www.ndaeb.ca), completed by a qualified health care professional must be submitted during the online Written Exam application process or emailed to office@ndaeb.ca no later than the application deadline date. Food products approved by the NDAEB as a medical accommodation MUST NOT cause a distraction or disruption to other examiners resulting from smells or noise when accessing or consuming the item. For remote proctored exams, candidates are not permitted food/snacks in their testing room. 6. ITEMS NOT PERMITTED: all electronic devices such as, but not limited to, cellular phones, tablets, pagers, calculators, computers, electronic readers, scanners, cameras, watches, smart watches, headphones, earphones or any other electronic device, are NOT permitted in the exam room and MUST be stored in a bag to be left in an area designated by the test administrator. Glasses will be checked to ensure they are not Smart glasses containing hidden cameras. All electronic devices MUST be turned off and MUST remain off until candidates sign out of the exam and leave the exam room. Further, papers, books, dictionaries or other aids are not permitted. Anyone using a device or other materials will be automatically expelled from the exam
